The program is a funded solely by Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) members including - handset manufacturers - LG Electronics, Motorola, Nokia, NEC, Panasonic, Sagem, Samsung, Sharp, Sony Ericission and RF Industries - carriers - Hutchison Telecommunications, Optus, Telstra and Vodafone, - service providers - AAPT and Virgin The recycling service is free to consumers and retailers. At the 30 November 2006 over 402 tonnes of mobile phone handsets, batteries and accessories had been collected or more than 630,000 handsets and over 1.68million batteries. By 2008 the goal is to treble annual collection of mobile phone handsets, batteries and accessories from 50 to 150 tonnes per annum and halve the number of handsets going to landfill.
